Last Christmas, the Wii was at the top of all four of my children's lists. Could they have chosen anything more difficult to obtain? I scoured and scoured ads, called stores, begged favors. Nothing worked.

Once in awhile there's a movie that the whole family really enjoys, from my young-for-her-age 11 year old to my 40-something "particular" husband. With a family that appreciates music, Disney's High School Musical is one such movie. We recorded it on the TiVO and it's been replayed several times.

It's cold and crisp here in the Northwest. Our weather seemed to change drastically rather than gradually this year. Except that my son hasn't refinished the porch yet, the colder weather is welcomed. With the colder weather, my thoughts have turned to Christmas.

No, it's not too early to begin thinking about Christmas. In our house, it's the biggest holiday of the year. When I was little, we spent every Christmas Eve at my grandparents' house. They were special times that I'll never forget.

Sometimes there are stock-up deals that are worth going over budget for. For me, it's taking money out of my Christmas fund (don't tell the kids!), but I know that in the long run, I'm saving big time. The deal I'm talking about is their $20 off 20 promotion going on right now.

We love jerky in our house. It doesn't have to be beef, though that and buffalo are the best. Turkey jerky is popular here. It's a little different texture and taste; still good, just different. The one I haven't tried yet is bear jerky. Yes, bear jerky.

Two weeks without a deal? Can that be possible? No, it isn't. I've been trying out the "fifth stage". That, coupled with the start of the school year, has meant bargain hunting has been at a minimum. Oberto killed the bargain-fast... but more on that later.

When Paul was in the Navy, one of the best parts of the homecoming celebration was free t-shirts. The pier would be lined with thousands of family members waiting for their loved ones to get off the ship, everyone eagerly looking for a familiar face.

The Expo was very well thought out. There was a main exhibition hall that was one huge light and noise show. Companies did what they could in the space allotted, vying for the attention (and future dollars) of the gaming community.

I spent the weekend in heaven... geek heaven, that is. The boys, my husband, and I went to PAX 2007 in Seattle. The Penny Arcade Expo is a three-day game festival for video, desktop, and table gamers. It's grown steadily in size since it debuted in 2004, doubling every year.
